“What does a typical day look like for you?”
This question is one our team gets asked frequently, especially during interviews with candidates looking to join Pierce PR. I remember asking this question when interviewing for my first internship during college. Having no PR experience, I was eager to know what a typical day looked like at an agency. I remember the woman I was interviewing with struggled to answer the question. She said that every day is so different, especially with the fast-paced and ever-changing nature of agency life. I wondered what that meant and why she found it so hard to answer what seemed to be a simple question.
Now that I have a year under my belt as a PR professional, I understand why this is such a difficult question to answer. Every day truly does look different. Some days, I am managing all things social media and designing graphics, and others, I am writing blogs, email copy or press releases. And then there are days where I’m on a marathon of client calls or attending events. There are even days that are a combination of all four.
While the question may be difficult to answer, I realize how beneficial the insight can be to those wondering – especially those new to the industry like I was when I first posed this question.
Recently, I chose a random Friday and documented what my day looked like. While there’s no “typical” day at a PR agency, here is a glimpse into one of mine as an account coordinator at Pierce PR.
A day in my life
A little bit about my position – I joined Pierce PR in January 2023 as an account coordinator. In this role, I manage social media, content creation, graphic design, and email strategy and development across multiple accounts. Our team is also completely remote, which is a huge perk!
Starting my day
Each day, I try to prioritize waking up early so that I can have dedicated quiet time before I open my laptop and my day gets away from me, and this Friday was no different. During the few early hours before work, I enjoyed a cup of coffee, made some breakfast, read and went for a short walk to enjoy the sunshine.
Instead of starting my day at the desk as usual, I traveled to a local TV station with my boss and Pierce PR’s founder, Julia Bonner, to be behind the scenes as she was interviewed about what it is like to be a woman-owned business. This was truly a treat to watch, and I realized how lucky I am to be doing what I love in my dream city with a boss that is one-of-a-kind. I will remember that day forever!
After the interview, I headed over to Nissan Stadium with our current intern, Evan Dorian, for a lunch event hosted by one of our clients, YouthVillages, a nonprofit dedicated to helping emotionally and behaviorally troubled children and their families live successfully. We left this event with an overflow of knowledge about their program and how they are helping children aging out of foster care get on their feet as they enter the working world.
Back to the desk
After the lunch event, I went back home and quickly hopped on a meeting with the rest of the Pierce team. We have team calls twice a week to go over our tasks and discuss our priorities. On Fridays, we extend the call by 15 minutes to answer a fun question and get to know each other a little better. Those meetings are by far my favorite!
Friday afternoons are always my social post planning time. I try to get all of the social posts for clients and Pierce PR ready for the week ahead so that I am set up for success when Monday rolls around. I drafted the copy, created all of the graphics and then sent them over to the team for review.
Once all of the social posts were complete, I got started on a new promotion email for one of our clients. I like to work ahead as much as possible because it typically takes a while before they are ready to send to the client for review.
Wrapping up my day
After I wrapped up work for the day, I went outside for a quick run. Movement after a busy day, which is every day for me, is so crucial, and I love getting outside to run or walk, especially if the weather is nice.
The days are ever-changing and fast paced, but I wouldn’t trade my position for the world. I hope this glimpse into a day in my life helps provide a behind-the-scenes look of what goes on at Pierce PR.
