Meet Your Pierce Pros: Olivia Beasley, design guru and ultimate Swiftie

Olivia Beasley joined Pierce PR as an account coordinator in May 2023. She is known on our team for her remarkable design talent, exceptional social media skills, keen awareness of pop culture, and her love for the purple heart emoji. A Nashville-area native, Olivia graduated cum laude from Belmont University.

In the past year, Olivia’s design expertise has significantly enhanced our agency’s collateral, revitalizing both our social media presence and that of our clients. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling to the beach or the mountains with her husband, Eli.

What inspired you to pursue public relations as your career?

While I’ve always had a passion for creative writing, design and social media, I’m also someone who thrives on organization and attention to detail. It’s this unique blend of creativity and precision that led me straight to a career in PR! Surprisingly, PR wasn’t initially on my radar. I began my college journey as an undeclared major, eagerly searching for the perfect fit among the university’s programs. Fate quickly stepped in by placing me in a Belmont University PR Professor, Dr. Bonnie Riechert’s First-Year Seminar class. She introduced me to the captivating world of PR and its various career pathways, and I instantly knew that was the direction for me. Just two weeks later, I made the decisive leap to declare PR as my major!

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

My favorite way to spend a day off is by being in nature. Whether it’s exploring scenic spots across Tennessee with my husband or taking a walk in our local park, nature always rejuvenates my spirit. Depending on the season, you can also find me soaking up the sun’s warmth at a winery or strolling through a pumpkin patch to take in the vibrant colors and crisp air. However, in true introvert fashion, my favorite part of the day is the quiet moments that follow at home—cozying up with my pets and a batch of freshly baked cookies, and tuning in to the timeless comfort of my favorite show. As our design guru, what’s your favorite Canva feature?

Canva is my go-to platform for design, and singling out just one favorite feature is no easy task (Be sure to check out my Canva blog for a deep dive into all my top tips)! However, if I had to choose, brand kits would take the spotlight. This feature has simplified our design process, streamlining efforts for both myself and our entire team. With brand kits, we can easily store specific color hex codes, logos, headshots, fonts, and more in one centralized location for each client. By setting up brand kits tailored to our clients’ needs, we can seamlessly adapt previous templates or create new designs that align perfectly with their unique branding. No more back-and-forth to hunt down information or images—it’s all right at our fingertips, saving us valuable time and effort. 

What is your favorite part about working at Pierce?

From my very first day at Pierce PR, I have been in awe of the incredible people I get to work with. Our team comprises some of the most kind-hearted, authentic, and dedicated professionals I’ve encountered throughout my career. I consider myself very fortunate to be in an environment where growth and mentorship thrive. The positive impact of our team’s quality extends far beyond our (virtual) office walls, also reaching the relationships we cultivate with our clients. Their respect and gratitude for our work not only validate our efforts but also make our work feel all the more rewarding.

We know you just got married in December. How has marriage positively impacted your career?

No matter the industry or role, every career journey has its highs and lows. Having Eli by my side as I embark on mine has been one of my greatest blessings. He celebrates with me when I achieve a big goal and provides comfort when facing a challenge. We’re fortunate to both work from home, so he’s always just a few steps away, ready to lend a hand. When the Wi-Fi goes out, we tackle it together. When one of us makes coffee, we make it for two, and when one of us is powering on right through lunch, we make sure to bring each other a plate of food. His presence turns personal moments into shared victories, making my career journey even more fulfilling and exciting!

What’s one fact about Taylor Swift most people don’t know or realize?

Many people know that Taylor Swift lives in Nashville, but what you might not know is that she used to live and go to high school just about two miles from me! Living in Hendersonville feels like the ultimate Swiftie win, and it’s something I always bring up when meeting another Taylor Swift fan. And another fun fact: she has a cat named Olivia!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to grow their digital design skills?

Finding inspiration is essential! While some designs require starting with a blank canvas, many of my favorite creations have been sparked by another piece that caught my eye. When I’m stuck on a design, I often turn to Pinterest, Instagram and even TikTok, to explore current design trends and features. These platforms are gold mines for fresh ideas and innovative concepts! I’ll save anything that has an intriguing design to keep in my back pocket, whether it’s a t-shirt, a coffee mug or a book cover. Everything gets a screenshot!
